Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which counties have signed a data license agreement?
The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) maintains any data licensing agreements that the counties may have with the State. The Oregon Department of Revenue (DOR), which administers the ORMAP Program, does not currently have agreements with any of the counties to share their taxlot data outside of DOR. If you would like any taxlot information you will need to contact the individual counties. For more information on the State's data sharing effort please see, http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/EISPD/GEO/coordination/datasharing.shtml.
2. How can I contact the counties?
The ORMAP site has a complete list of county contact information. If you go to the Regions page , then select the county you'd like to contact, that information will be displayed.
3. Where can I find taxlot ownership information?
Currently you will need to contact the County's Assessor's Office for any ownership or assessment information associated with the taxlots. For a list of county contacts please visit: http://egov.oregon.gov/DOR/PTD/County.shtml
4. How do I contact ORMAP via the Postal Service?
You can send your mail to ORMAP at the address posted on the contacts page. http://www.ormap.org/contacts/
5. I can not open the PDF file of the tax maps.
Many times this is related to the pop-up blocker that is part of many web browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox, for example). Many of these browsers give you some sort of message that a pop-up is being blocked, usually near the tool bar or at the bottom of the browser frame. If this is the case, you need to set ORMAP as a safe site within the preferences of the browser or pop-up blocker software. This problem may also occur when Adobe Reader is opened in the browser window instead of its own window. You can change this by opening Adobe Reader, selecting the Preferences from the Edit pull down, and under the Internet category, there is a check box to have Adobe open in the browser window; make sure this box is not selected.
6. Can I find a taxlot by address?
You can search for taxlots by address. This search is similar to address searches on other sites in that you enter the street name and number as well as the postal zip code, e.g. 123 Sesame Street 97301. The address search is designed to assist you in locating your tax map; however, it will not provide the precision or detail of other online address/mapping tools.
7. Maps Online! seems to be moving slower?
By adding the taxlots for the entire state the amount of data being searched and drawn has increased, so the speed of the site may be affected.
8. Why aren't the street names displayed?
The datasets we are using do not have the streets labeled. We are currently looking for other sources to provide us with accurate street labels.
9. How can I use the assessor’s map number to find the associated taxmap?
You can find this information on the Map Help page.
10. How do I use the zoom tool?
To use the zoom feature, click on the tool, then draw a box around the area you would like to include in the zoom. The size and scale of the zoom area will depend on the size of the box you draw. More information about using the tools is available by clicking the "Help" icon on the Maps Online! toolbar.
11. Why don’t some of the taxlots and taxmaps match up?
The Department of Revenue and the counties are working on the accuracy of the ORMAP data. We are currently in the second phase of the project, using ORMAP "Goal 2" data across the state; which has limited accuracy. As we receive data from the counties that meet the ORMAP Technincal Specifications, these edge matching problems should be resolved. For more information about the goals, see ORMAP Goals.
12. How can I order a CD of all of the Taxmaps found on the ORMAP site?
The Department of Revenue can provide the taxmaps for the 14 counties that it maintains for a small fee. You can find more information about ordering maps under Map Ordering.
13. How can I print the assessor’s map to scale from the ORMAP site?
You can find this information on the "Printing Maps to Scale" help page.
14. When will Goal 2 data be available?
ORMAP Goal 2 data will provide the basis for Maps Online! beginning in July 2006. The source data will only be available from the Department of Revenue if the county has a data licensing agreement in place. Otherwise, you will have to contact the individual counties. For more information on ordering maps and/or data, see Map Ordering.
15. When I use my web browser’s back button the ORMAP site displays the wrong image?
As with other dynamic maps, the map image depends on specific information that is stored when you select areas on the image or use the search tools. When you use your browser's "back" button, the information is not retained and the image you had selected may be lost. To avoid this, always use the Maps Online! tools to navigate rather than using your browser's toolbar.
16. What web browsers does the ORMAP site support?
The ORMAP web site is accessible using any browser; however, the dynamic features of Maps Online! are currently not available for very old browsers and for the Safari (Mac OS) browser. MacIntosh owners must use an alternate such as Firefox or IE.
